It has been soooooooo hot lately, and I have been craving light (aka none or very, very little added sugar), refreshing cocktails. I was making a mojito for Jack the other day when I started thinking about how underrated cucumber in cocktails is, and how easy it is to juice them. So, I set off on a quest to make a cucumber-y, limy, bubbly cocktail that is short on calories and sugar but full of flavor. If you have a juicer (or a blender and a strainer) I highly recommend making cucumber juice. It’s so good. However, I wanted this cocktail to be really easy to make without a million tools or annoying ingredients. When it is this hot out, everything just requires more effort, you know? The less I had to do, the better. That being said, don’t be lazy. I cut as many corners for you guys as I could, and at the end of the day, you must muddle your cucumber slices.
I will admit that I googled ‘what makes a margarita a margarita’ as I was trying to come up with a name for this insanely delicious cocktail I’ve been drinking alllll the time lately. I didn’t want to call a tequila cocktail a margarita unless it actually fit the definition of a marg! So, off I went to Google, and according to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, a margarita is ‘a cocktail consisting of tequila, lime or lemon juice, and an orange-flavored liqueur.’ AND. Hmmm. That ‘and’, I think, disqualifies this drink from being an official Margarita (only 2 for 3, by definition, as this cocktail doesn’t have any orange liquor or juice). Anyways, that’s how I landed on ‘guzzler.’ Mainly because you’re going to want to guzzle (responsibly, of course) a bazillion of these. Enjoy!
Garden Party Guzzler
Equipment
- Cocktail Shaker
- Muddler
Ingredients
Garden Party Guzzler (for one)
- 1 2" section of a cucumber, peeled and thinly sliced
- 2 ounces fresh lime juice (about one lime)
- 2 ounces silver tequila
- 2 ounces coconut water
For Garnish:
- Club soda, coarse sea salt, lime wedge, and cucumber wheel
Instructions
- Combine the lime juice and cucumber in a shaker and muddle until the cucumber is well mashed.
- Add the tequila, coconut water, and a lot of ice. Shake for at least 30 seconds.
- Salt your rim, if desired, and add ice to your glass. Strain your drink into your glass and top off with club soda. Garnish with a lime wedge and cucumber wheel.
- Guzzle away (responsibly, of course)
